Junya Watanabe

AW07 Boiled Wool Biker Jacket

Junya's autumn/winter 2007 focused heavily on iterating motorcycle wear. Rider jackets and all parts of the biker's uniform were reimagined from the ground up in novel ways. Possibly the most recognisable is executing the classic leather rider jacket in melton wool, a menswear classic. Here, the hallmarks of any good rider are maintained - a flurry of pockets, asymmetrical closure and lapels, all flanked with studs and snaps. The material is special, a texturally heavy boiled wool that mimics characteristics of wools found on vintage military apparel, fusing multiple worlds of menswear.
