Obscure Czech filmmaker Jan Svankmayer is known for creating surreal, haunting allegories exploring the human condition, usually utilising claymation. Jun Takahashi, inspired endlessly by Svankmayer's work, dedicated his entire SS05 to the artist. In particular, Takahashi referenced two particular films: "Alice" and "Food". Alice informed the overall aesthetic of the collection, and served as an extension of his design language since the turn of the 21st century, juxtaposing dainty and coquette themes with his clear punk and grunge aesthetic. Dainty blouses, puffy sleeves, and tailoring was present throughout both Alice and this collection. Here, a fine tulle slip is found intersecting a wool trouser, both relatively dainty materials. The construction itself is a direct reference to "Food" wherein greed and impatience overwhelm a couple as they turn to consuming clothes and eventually each other. Following along with themes of decay in both Takahashi and Svankmayer's works, these trousers have begun to wither away, with marks and moth holes throughout, however, they still serve as an incredible piece of runway history.
