Dress shorts from earlier in Demna's tenure at Balenciaga (likely circa 2017-2018), when the phrase "normcore" was still common vernacular in the fashion zeitgeist. A relatively subtle play on the notion of uniform and the work place, the appearance is that of a dress trouser that is cropped to the knees for a short silhouette - one that fits snugly around the seat and hits a consistent and wide leg opening. Although appearing like suiting material, a cotton twill is used with a sharkskin finish, resulting in a much harder wearing alternative to the usual wools and synthetics. Initially a womenswear piece, this has been altered to fit smaller waist sizes in men's too.
