I could write another essay here, about Robert Mapplethorpe, his life’s work, how this seamlessly intertwines with Raf Simons long documented infatuation with New York, and how these puzzle pieces fit together. However, I’m kinda tired and a lil bored about writing about Raf (I’ve written countless of blurbs about him in the last 4 years) so here’s a personal anecdote about Robert Mapplethorpe.
I took an art history class in my third year of Uni (weird when ur studying medicine but was very cool). We studied portraiture, with an emphasis on photography. I recognised Mapplethorpe’s work ONLY because I’d seen it on Raf’s clothes. Very embarrassing stuff, but isn’t life’s greatest pleasure learning? I think so.
Tunic featuring a self-portrait of Mapplethorpe, in a dense polyester twill. Awesome for layering (like over a button up shirt), or worn as a boxy oversized mini dress!
